In my calendar, today is called Good Friday. Today’s newsletter is brief.

The invitation from my friend, Greg, was irresistible. “If there was a memorial service for Jesus, what would Nicodemus say in a eulogy?”

Nicodemus only shows up by name in the Bible three times, all in the Gospel of John. And there wasn’t a funeral for Jesus that we know of. But I appreciated the opportunity for reflecting.

Here’s what I wrote: Nicodemus 2023 (It’s a PDF so you can download it, too).

The eulogy part will be part of the service on Good Friday evening. The rest I wrote to help myself prepare.

I’m sharing this here because it was a moment for me to think about what to say in a particular hard time. And because I also had a graveside service this week, and some other hard conversations and decided that it was okay to double up on the use of some writing.

See you next week.

Jon

Thank you Jon. I enjoyed reading this account of what Nicodemus may have been thinking and feeling! You paint a great word picture!
