That sounds funny, right? That I want you to hear my voice?
But tone of voice and ways of talking are so much part of how we provide support for other people. Knowing that there is a person behind the writing, behind the gifts, behind the silence.
For a long time in our hospital, we wore masks in all our interactions. Sometimes, for just a second, I’d remove my mask and put it back on, saying, “When we’re talking about life and death and loss, it helps to see a face, even if just for a second.”
That’s what I’m doing here.
